Intel aiming to attract Apple with chips for iPad and iPhone

Reports show Intel has its sights on the mobile market. Intel said it is going to develop new chips that will attract more manufacturers, specifically targeting Apple. Intel is saying its new chips will be so great Apple will use it for their iPad and iPhone.

From Intel CEO Paul Otellini:

“Our job is to ensure our silicon is so compelling, in terms off running the Mac better or being a better iPad device, that as they make those decisions they can’t ignore us.”

Is this Intel‘s answer to the challenge knocking on their door for years, from rival company ARM?

If this were boxing, think of Intel and ARM as two champions in different divisions(nevermind who is in the heavier division) to which everyone is goading to get it on. Intel has dominated the PC market for years with its I-series processors. ARM meanwhile has enjoyed much success in the mobile market, particularly with the chips it makes for smartphones. ARM would eventually encroach in the PC market and pick up the fight left by AMD. With Windows tablets using ARM processors arriving soon, ARM may taken another step towards Intel territory.

Is this the answer then of Intel? A step on ARM‘s mobile territory with chips for the iPad and the iPhone?
