Google to Microsoft:$4 Billion or else stop selling Xbox 360 in the US
When Google decided to purchase Motorola months ago, this was to strengthen its claim on several patents and intellectual property rights and to compete with Apple in the mobile market. The total price of purchasing Motorola amounted to $ 12.5 billion. For such a huge investment, you would think it might take awhile before Google rakes in the profits/benefits of its Motorola acquisition. Well guess what, Google has now started making use of the patents it acquired from Motorola in a series of intellectual lawsuits. On their wanted list is software giant Microsoft. And Google wants $4 billion from them.
Google is asking for $ 4 billion from Microsoft for patent rights which the latter is using on its Xbox 360 console. Or else, Google is going to stop Microsoft from further selling their game console in the US. Beautiful isn’t it!
We wouldn’t consider this latest act of Google as intellectual bullying. That is something more associated with Microsoft. Microsoft has been known to bully smaller companies into paying for patent and royalty fees. I remember the scene in the movie “Pirates of Silicon Valley” where Bill Gates bullied the owner of the Altair 8800 into giving in to an increase in patent fees for the primitive computer, saying without Microsoft’s program, the Altair 8800 was nothing but a box with lights that blinked.
The report calls this threat from Google as a slap in Microsoft‘s face. But we consider it more than just a slap. More like a slash to their ego. Yeah Google, make Microsoft pay!
